The passionate essay took a stark look at how 5.4 million women had lost their jobs since the COVID-19 pandemic began-and how the lockdown played out in Garbes’s life as a mother and writer of color. When writer Angela Garbes penned “The Numbers Don’t Tell the Whole Story” for New York Magazine in February 2021, she had no idea that the piece would be heralded and shared by the likes of Melinda Gates and Elizabeth Warren. ![]()
